Wright Development Group, Inc. is a Utah-based real estate development firm dedicated to working closely and fairly with tenants, community leaders, landowners, and buyers to design, develop and manage top-quality projects. The Company was founded with the philosophy of creating long-term value by building, owning and managing projects with state-of-the-art architectural, mechanical, and electrical design. Our goal is to maximize overall long-term return to tenants while enhancing the communities in which our projects are located.
Currently, we focus on the following areas of real estate development and investment: retail shopping centers, preferred developer services for national and regional tenants, general office and medical offices, multi-family residential and single family lot development. With our internal development, finance and legal departments, along with a team of experienced property management and leasing agents, Wright Development is able to provide better design, higher construction quality and enduring value.
Who We Are
Gary M. Wright is the Chairman and Founder of Wright Development Group with over four decades of experience in real estate development. Gary began his career with Ivory Homes, Utah’s largest home builder, where he developed residential subdivisions throughout Davis and Weber Counties for over 31 years. For the past fifteen years, Gary has used his extensive development experience to create quality retail projects throughout those same communities. Spencer H. Wright is the President and CEO of Wright Development Group. As the CEO, Spencer oversees all retail development and has extensive experience developing retail projects from start to finish. Prior to joining Wright Development, Spencer worked at a national law firm in Washington D.C. In addition to working closely with individual municipalities to secure approvals for the Company’s developments, Spencer oversees all contract negotiations and leasing associated with the retail development, including lease agreements, purchase and sale agreements, site development agreements, and easements, covenants and restrictions associated with each property.Justin J. Mr. Atwater is General Counsel to Wright Development Group and its affiliated companies. Mr. Atwater is responsible for legal compliance and provides trusted advice and representation to the companies on a wide variety of legal, financial and business matters. Mr. Atwater brings a broad spectrum of real estate, corporate, acquisition, entity formation financing, banking and securities law experience.
Prior to joining Wright Development Group, Mr. Atwater was General Counsel for the owner and developer of the largest ski terrain in North America. During his time in that role, Mr. Atwater assisted in achieving several monumental legal and real estate development results shaping the future of the mountain recreation and development landscape in Utah.
Mr. Atwater also served as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel to one of the Intermountain West’s top homebuilders and private equity real estate firms. Mr. Atwater began his career at one of Utah’s most prominent law firms where he focused on private capital, securities compliance, business planning, mergers & acquisitions, and various contract and transactional matters.
Mr. Atwater is a Certified Public Accountant and holds both a Bachelor and Masters in Accounting and Tax from Brigham Young University. Mr. Atwater earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Utah, S.J. Quinney College of Law, with highest distinction. Mountain States Super Lawyers Magazine has recognized him as a Rising Star and Utah Business Magazine as Legal Elite in Corporate and Transactional Law.
As a partner, Phil has extensive experience in identifying and acquiring new land opportunities, building relationships with land sellers, obtaining approvals from municipalities, and planning for long-term company growth and development. Prior to joining Wright Development Group, Phil Holland served as V.P. of Land Acquisition for Henry Walker Homes. He began his career in 2001 as a land acquisition associate with Ivory Homes and later managed the acquisition and development department for Gold Medallion Homes. Mr. Holland has worked with municipalities his entire career, overseeing crucial land positions for the likes of GMW Development, Hawkins Homes and Communities, and Uinta Land Investments. He has also played a major role in the acquisition of over $70 million in real estate developments. Mr. Holland is a graduate of Weber State University.Dale VanWagoner, President, Somerset Property Management
Dale VanWagoner is the Senior Property Manager of Somerset Property Management, a premier property management company, and an affiliate of Wright Development Group. Dale is a veteran property manager with over 15 years of experience in real estate and property management. Dale works diligently with tenants, vendors and maintenance personnel to ensure that each center remains a first-class center long after it is constructed. Dale’s ultimate goal is to provide each tenant with outstanding service, thereby enabling them to increase sales per square foot year after year. Dale is currently working on his Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation through the local IREM chapter.
